Domaine Courbis Saint Joseph Rouge is one of the finest Saint-Josephs in existence. A deep, intense wine, it is a wonderful expression of the perfumed, spicy Syrah grape when grown in the best vineyard sites. Its velvety palate bursts with ripe plum and bramble flavours.

When we visited Domaine Courbis this spring, we were bowled over by the quality of the estate's wines (and by the charming hospitality of Laurent Courbis!). Laurent took us on a tour of his vineyards, most of which are planted on the sheer south and west facing slopes of Saint Joseph. In 1963, Laurent's father was one of the first of the area's vignerons to re-plant these steep slopes: very difficult to work, but unquestionably producing the finest wines in the appellation.
Domaine Courbis dates from the 16th century and has been handed down from father to son since the start of the 20th century. The vineyards currently extend to 32 hectares of terrassed vineyard, situated around the villages of Glun, Châteaubourg and Cornas.
