|Name||Ackerman A. Laurance Sparkling Rosé|
At the start of the 19th century, a young Flemish man, Jean-Baptiste Ackerman left Antwerp for the Champagne region eager to learn all the secrets of the famous sparkling wine. A year later, armed with his knowledge, he left for the Val de Loire where he purchased 7 kilometres of the finest cellars carved out of the limestone quarries. Ackerman was the first in the region to use the "méthode traditionnelle" and was the only producer of a sparkling wine in the Val de Loire for forty years. In 1936, when the classification system was set up, Saumur Brut was granted AOC (Appellationd'Origine Controlée) status much thanks to the work of Jean-Baptiste. In 1956, Ackerman Laurance decided to merge with the Rémy Pannier group forming the leading producer of Val de Loire wines.
