Chateau de Juge Cadillac 2007 halves (6 X 37.5 cl bottles)

Chateau de Juge Cadillac 2007 halves (6 X 37.5 cl bottles)

Chateau de Juge Cadillac is located directly across the Garonne from Sauternes and is blessed with the same climactic and soil conditions that lend themselves to the production of those legendary dessert wines. The sweet wine produced in Cadillac is very similar in style to neighboring Sauternes, with the same honeyed flavours of grapefruit, melon, pineapple and tangerine.

Cadillac is a small appellation located in the Southwest of Bordeaux’s Entre-Deux-Mers region. It is named after the city of the same name, which was founded by the English in the 12th century, and which also lends its name to the famous car manufacturer (in honor of Antoine de la Mothe, who was born in Cadillac and went on to found the city of Detroit). The appellation was established in 1973, and is comprised of 21 communes on the right bank of the Garonne river. Soils are composed mainly of sand and limestone. The three approved grape varieties are Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, though Semillon is the most widely planted due to its affinity for Botrytis Cinerea. Château du Juge uses exclusively Semillon.

Château du Juge is located in the commune of Haux on one of the highest hills overlooking the Garonne. The actual château used to belong to Pierre Nicolas Rousse, a French pirate of some repute (the historical record does not make mention of whether or not he produced sweet wine when he wasn’t out pillaging). These days, the domaine is owned and operated by brothers Jacques, Jean and Marc Medeville. Grapes are hand-harvested in successive passes as rot develops and fermented and aged in vats for 36 months before bottling. Average production is a little over 1500 cases per vintage.
