Château Cazal Viel Saint-Chinian Single Vineyard 'Clos du Vent' 2006 is a delicious, structured, robust wine made mainly from the Syrah grape. It is aged in new French oak (55%) for 12 months before bottling. Its flavours are rich and juicy, with ample spice and plums, beginning to develop a more complex 'secondary' character.

Key facts

The Miquel family have been making wines in Saint-Chinian, in the Languedoc, since the French Revolution. The estate specialises in Viognier (of which it owns 20 hectares of vines) and Syrah (60 hectares). The estate's mission is to make "the ultimate Saint-Chinian", but its wines from the Pays d'Oc are some of the most affordable, classy offerings from this exciting, often under-valued, region.
