Castorani Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 'Coste delle Plaie' 2010 is a full-bodied, exotic, mineral Italian white, from Jarno Trulli's own estate in the beautiful Abruzzo hills.
The Castorani estate was well known in the 18th century, under the name of Casino Castorani. In 2000, it was purchased by Formula 1 racing driver Jarno Trulli. Currently, 32 hectares are planted, with an average vineyard age of 25 years. Grapes are farmed organically, thanks to their location at 300 metres where a cooling wind through the vineyards helps to maintain the vines' natural health.
A new winery has just been built equipped with modern technology, with a grape drying room which allows grapes to be cool dried, giving a fresher style to the resulting ‘Amarone' type wines. The whites are pressed in modern basket presses, rather than with a pneumatic press, as the winemaker, Luca, feels that this gives more character and stability to the wines.
To quote Jarno Trulli "I've always sought perfection in everything I do: in a racing car, where split seconds make the difference; and in the vineyard, where it has taken years of hard work to give our wine its special character and originality."
