Rosato di Toscana 'Salta Grilli' Castiglioni 2010 is a delicious, fresh, full-bodied Italian rosé made from 80% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Its aromas are of violets, redcurrants and strawberries. On the palate, it had enough weight to partner well with a range of summer continental dishes.
1092 is the date of the first historical document attesting to 'Castillioni Vallis Pesae.' These vineyards of Castiglioni in fact give rise to the first historic 700 years of Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi wine. The Castiglioni estate lies at an elevation from 200 to 250 metres in the Chianti Colli Fiorentini zone, in the Montespertoli area. It comprises 513 hectares, with 152 under vines.
The local climate is warm and dry, and the vineyards, completely re-planted to high densities in the 1990s, favour the production of wines that display rich aromas of wild red berry fruit, classic to this Chianti area. Castiglioni produces Tenuta di Castiglioni IGT, il Saltagrilli IGT and the Giramonte IGT cru.
