Primitivo di Manduria 'Ampelo' 2009 is a rich, full-bodied Italian red, from Apulia's signature red grape variety. Manduria has its own denominazione for the Primitivo grape, as its terra rossa soils have proved to be the grape's finest terroir. The wine is aged for 4 months in French oak barrels, giving it spicy cherry and plum aromas, with hints of cocoa and vanilla on the palate.

Key facts

The Terre di Sava project was started by Mauro di Maggio and Angelo Cotugno in 2008, near Salento, in the beautiful region of Apulia on Italy's southern heel. Made from mostly native grape varieties, the wines come from some of the region's most exciting and varied vineyard sites.
