The "Crus Artisans" of Bordeaux are not often mentioned, but this superior château classification has in fact existed for over one and a half centuries. In 1989, a small group of châteaux decided to resurrect the term, which had fallen into disuse in the 1930s. Today, 44 small châteaux are permitted to use the term "Cru Artisan", in the appellations of Médoc, Haut-Médoc, Listrac-Médoc, Moulis, Margaux, Saint-Julien, Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe.

Château Bégadan is a small property in the heart of the Médoc, run by Monsieur and Madame Salette, the fifth generation of vignerons to make wine at the estate. The wines are made using sustainable, traditional agricultural methods, whereby much is still done by hand.
